'Blue Tropics'

3×4 feet acrylic on canvas

I didn’t really know where this one was going when I started it. I painted over a canvas Luke had been working on the day before, and somehow that made it feel less precious — easier to just begin layering colors one at a time.

One at a time. Not always easy for me, the one who likes to know the ending of a book, or how things will work out (in any context). But life has been reminding lately that it’s meant to be taken one step at a time. The setbacks, what feels like the mundane … they’re part of it too. And sometimes taking it one step at a time opens you up to opportunities that you couldn’t have planned for.

I like where I landed with this one; that it feels both spontaneous and grounded. How I’d like to say I’m trying to live.
