“Still Blooming”

24” x 36” Acrylic on Canvas

This floral commission is for one of my oldest friends; we literally traded stickers at recess in kindergarten. I know I say it often, but truly the biggest blessing that’s come out of picking up the paint brush again is creating something meaningful alongside friends/family/people.

In the best way, Em and I went back and forth on this one A LOT. My first pass was not sitting right so I actually painted over it and started from scratch; then the stripes were too blue... “they remind me of a carnival” (gotta love an old friend that shoots you straight); then it was feeling too flat so I needed to add shadows. Like the best friendships, this painting is layered, textured, imperfect. Sometimes paintings that take a bit more refining and time are harder to let go of and ship off...but this one I’m excited to get into the hands of my dear friend. We live in different states now and talk less often, but I feel just a little more connected to her day to day knowing this will be in her home.
