30 x 20 inches | Watercolor & pastel on paper
This big & busy watercolor. She was a slow burn, and looking at her, I’m reminded of just how many hours, evenings, moments went into bringing her to completion.
I’m usually a pretty fast painter. Maybe it’s my personality and love of seeing things through to completion, or maybe it’s just the reality of squeezing painting into life right now. So many hours spent drawing, painting, pasteling (still not sure that’s a word 😂), stepping away, coming back, and painting some more.
Most of the work happened late in the evenings, after the boys were tucked into bed. Sometimes it was just me, decompressing from a long day. Other nights Tom there to chat with while I chipped away at another little part of her.
Not sure what the younger version of myself would think of me now - someone who allows something to take longer than expected. Cherishing slow. Valuing creating just because it’s fun.
I love that every flower is a little different, that some areas feel wild and chaotic while others feel soft and quiet. There’s something about that combination that feels a lot like life. I think she was worth the wait. 💛
